Christmas mourning: How to cope with your first holiday season after losing a pet
I'm forcing myself to be festive this year. I've had times in my life when I skipped Christmas altogether. "I'm not Christmasing this year," I'd say when people asked me standard holiday questions like "Do you have your tree up yet?" This year I'm forcing myself to be festive for the sake of my mental health. One small reason is the COVID-19 pandemic has sucked so much happiness out of 2020 that I'm trying to infuse some of the obligatory Christmas joy into what's left of the year. The biggest reason for my forced festivities is Keira. More specifically the loss of Keira I suffered earlier this year.

Ontario Nature reveals government failure: Ontario’s record on protecting species at risk is devastating for wildlife
The Auditor General of Ontario’s report, Protecting and Recovering Species at Risk, is not reading for the faint of heart. Released on November 22, 2021, the audit sets out in excruciating detail the Government of Ontario’s abject failure to exercise its duty to protect the province’s most vulnerable plants and animals.

Guest blog: Three native Ontario bee species in decline and how you can help
Today, August
20th, we celebrate the little, unsung heroes of our
ecosystems. It's the 13th annual World Honey Bee Day! The first World Honey Bee Day was held in 2009, and since then, we
have been giving a quiet nod of thanks on the third Saturday of August to
honey bees and their caretakers, the beekeepers.

Extraordinary pet: Sully's adventure is just beginning
Sully is just over two years old but this dog has seen more
adventure than most dogs 10 times his age. That’s because this hound mix has
met his match- outdoor adventure and nature enthusiast Courtney Sinclair.
Courtney fell in love with Sully’s goofy spirit in a heartbeat and they have
explored the Canadian wilderness together ever since.
Courtney fell for Sully’s kind eyes and big ears when a
teammate and OSPCA employee brought him to one of their rugby games in hopes of
getting him adopted. He as a clumsy puppy and absolutely adorable- Courtney was
in love.
They now live together in a house on the waterfront. Sully’s
journey with Courtney takes him all over the Ottawa Valley through scenic
forests and along glistening rivers. Sully lives right smack in the middle of
some of the most beautiful Provincial Parks in Ontario. He loves all of the
wildlife he gets to experience and he even gets to chase the occasional
squirrel or two.
