February has nothing but love for pets: celebrate these animal-themed holidays
Photo by Angela Scappatura Photography Foter CC BY |
February is here and it’s time to take inventory of our
lives, celebrate love and warm the frost away in time for spring. February
is always a busy time so it’s fitting that the month would be overflowing with
pet-themed holidays and awareness weeks.
The month of February is dedicated to many furry friends.
Not only is it National Pet Dental
Health Month but it is also Responsible
Pet Owners Month, Responsible Animal
Guardian Month and National Prevent
a Litter Month. If that’s not enough love for the animal kingdom then wait-
there’s more! February is also the ASPCA’s Adopt
a Rescued Rabbit Month and the Humane Society of the United States Spay/Neuter Awareness Month.

This new year celebrate these pet themed holidays that will have you talking to your cat and saving squirrels
January kicks off a new year for you and your pet. The
month brings upon new beginnings, resolutions and a fresh start. Why not
celebrate with a little extra attention for the furry friends that made last
year so special.
January hosts a few different causes for animals. Not only is January National Train Your Dog Month, but it is also Walk Your Pet Month and Adopt a Rescued Bird Month.
This is a nice reminder to us dog owners about the importance of leash manners. Training your dog to walk well on the leash is not just good for your dog but it’s good for you too. Dogs that pull constantly can inadvertently cause back and shoulder injuries to their long suffering owners. If you think you could have these issues in the future enroll in an obedience class. Not only will it teach your dog better manners but it’s a great way to make new friends.

This holiday season celebrates animals of all kinds with these pet themed holidays
This holiday season is going to the dogs, monkeys and the horses! December ushers in the cold of the snow and the warmth of the holidays- but did you know that there are pet holidays and awareness weeks in December? Add to the celebration by spoiling your furry family members a little more this Christmas.
December 2nd is National Mutt Day and is a day worth celebrating. Mixed breeds are often healthier and are wonderful pets. This pet holiday was initiated by the Animal Miracle Foundation as an effort to help place 10, 000 shelter dogs.

Valley Animal Rescue supports animals in Renfrew County and
we support them with a giveaway!

Meet Little Willy! Willy is one on the many pets that
have been fortunate enough to be rescued by the Valley Animal Rescue in Renfrew County, Ontario.
Willy, like so many other dogs and cats being fostered through this organization, is
in need of a loving forever home with caring and patient people who can tend to his needs.
Valley Animal Rescue- or VAR- is a registered charity
organization that relies solely on foster parents for the animals they take in.
They run off of the donations and support of their community and local animal
lovers. But unlike some of the other wider known animal shelters or rescue
organizations that have more funding, VAR has to do quite a bit of the legwork. VAR has a network of community members who put in time for these animals without any pay- just the reward of giving a helping hand and a temporary home. Since it’s a foster run charity 100% of all donations go to the
animals.
