Ruth Ware has done it again! She keeps crafting creative mysteries and plots that propel the reader forward, and One By One is no exception. This is the ultimate Fall Reading List book. Set on a snowy mountain in France, the story is as chilling as the white powder that swallows the characters whole.

Ten coworkers from a trendy London-based tech startup visit the French Alps for a work retreat. The week is supposed to be filled with skiing, good food, and PowerPoint presentations, but instead, team members are being murdered one by one. When an avalanche leaves them stranded in their chalet, it becomes impossible to escape the killer. All they can do is wait- and hope they are not the next one to die.

Each chapter hit with the force of a skier pivoting in the snow at full speed and the elegance of a short staccato sentence. It was easy to consume this book in just a few days, reading a couple of hours every night before bed as the snow and the city lights cast its grey-orange glow through my apartment window. I plowed through this book. Be prepared to white-knuckle it with every page you turn.

What I enjoyed most was that Ruth created some characters I loathed. It's always fun to have a character that you hate, even when at times they are slightly sympathetic. The twists in the book weren't just plot related- many characters revealed unexpected secrets about their life that added an extra element of mystery. It kept me questioning each character's motives.

Ruth Ware is the mystery writer of our generation and like blood red on white snow, this book can not be ignored. It forces us to look inside ourselves and to question the technological advancement of the modern world. Is this shift in our evolution beneficial? Or is it changing us, one by one?
