Pet parents are outraged. Councillor Alan Tobin is receiving serious backlash after posting his views on the new posters for the dog park that list restricted breeds. The County Councillor of Meath, Ashbourne in Ireland stated in his Facebook post that he is "delighted" to get the signs that he had asked for, and that is amazes him that "some people think these are ideal family pets."
Dogs on the list include American Bull Terrier, Bull Mastiff, Staffordshier Bull Terrier, German Shepherd, Japanese Akita, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Doberman Pinscher, Rottweiler, English Bull Terrier and Japanese Tosa. Most Facebook users are outraged, and the post has over 140, 000 shares and over 240, 000 comments. While most people are in opposition to Tobin's poster there are comments from people who agree with him. Breeds that bite has been a great debate among pet owners, most veterinary and canine research organizations take a similar stance on the breed bite: the main focus should be on responsible pet ownership, not breed.

On August 20, 2014 I reported on a German shepherd named Zara who was missing and suspected stolen in Crownsville, Maryland while her owner was posted to Kuwait. Jon Kenneth Walker is a member of the Army National Guard and has been searching for Zara ever since while over 4 000 people- myself included- have been watching his “Bring Zara Home” Facebook page for any sign that she will be returned to him. Those following the page have shared his posts and spread Zara’s story but still no sign of her. Today- Feb. 10- Jon posted some news and gave us all hope that Zara may have been located- in South Carolina.

A dog lost in the woods is a pet parent’s worst nightmare. Finding a lost pet can be difficult but imagine being far from home- unable to fight on the front lines to find your pet and bring her home safely.
That is what Specialist Jon Kenneth Walker- an aviation mechanic and service member in the Maryland Army National Guard- has endured. Jon’s dog Zara went missing on July 28th 2014 in Crownsville, Maryland while he was deployed in Kuwait. Now Jon is back home but still no sign of his girl Zara.
"I am currently back in the United States and got back just a few short days ago," Jon said in an August 19th correspondence. “I was activated to active duty and began my deployment last October and spent the majority of my time while deployed in Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan."

Extraordinary pet: Nyla loves making her family smile

By Stacey Gonzalez- March 2014
Five years after the tragic accident that took her dog Daisy, José and her cat Nova are finally ready to welcome a new dog into their lives. This dog may be very different from Daisy but the one thing they do have in common is the love they have for their family.

José adopted Nyla in March 2013. She was a sweet little puppy. Nyla is
a mix- German shepherd, golden retriever, Chow Chow and black Labrador
retriever. She is very tall and lanky which makes her extra cute in that clumsy
puppy kind of way. When she was little she was a fuzzy ball of fur and as she grew her
coat became short and sleek. Her adorable ears fold over in a funny way that matches
her personality perfectly.

Theodore- Theo for short- and his owner Carrie almost never came to be. Carrie was looking to adopt an older dog but when the saw Theo- an adorable little puppy- she couldn’t help but take him home. She made the right choice because Theo was meant for her in every way.
Theodore- Theo for short- and his owner Carrie almost never came to be. Carrie was looking to adopt an older dog but when the saw Theo- an adorable little puppy- she couldn’t help but take him home. She made the right choice because Theo was meant for her in every way.
Theo came from a litter of three puppies that Carrie’s aunt
and uncle were trying to get adopted out for a neighbour. She believes that he
is part Chow Chow, Labrador retriever and German shepherd. But according to
Carrie- “whatever he is, he’s definitely 100 per cent loveable!”

Tellum is a six year old pure black German Shepherd who is so full of life- despite his age. He still loves to run, swim and play like a young pup. He is a sweet natured, laid back dog that loves spending time with his two-legged Lindsay.
