Pre-order today: AWAKE, A Dream from Standing Rock premieres tomorrow on Earth Day
"I'm awake. I have been woken by the spirit inside, that demanded I open my eyes,"
-AWAKE, A Dream from Standing Rock
If you have been following the story of the water protectors at Standing Rock, then many of you are probably already aware of the lack of mainstream media coverage on the front lines of the Dakota Access Pipeline protests. The water protectors have suffered abuse, freezing cold temperatures and have faced off with militarized police to protect their treaty lands, clean water and to block a decision that will have a huge impact on climate change. Their voices need to be heard, and their fight is real.

Climate Facts: Sharing science and hope
Does climate change have an impact on your pets? You bet it does! We are already seeing an increase in numbers and more diverse species of ticks in North America as the climate warms. Ticks can transmit diseases including Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Ticks are arachnids and they feed on blood. This means you, the moose and your pets are at risk. CLICK HERE to learn more!
I'm really inspired by Years of Living Dangerously and their hashtag #ClimateFacts to raise awareness about climate change. Paws For Reaction #ClimateFacts raise awareness about climate science, and also share solutions and renewable achievements. I'd love to

This month I'm celebrating the Paws For Reaction 5 year Blog-iversary!
April 21, 2017 marks the five year anniversary of Paws For Reaction! It's hard to believe it's been five years since I started this journey. I began this journey at the same time as I was looking for the perfect dog. I found Keira, and she was one of the best decisions I ever made. She inspired me to write about pets, and has since then inspired me to connect with nature. Her love of nature has made me want to protect it. She is my best friend.

Two years ago we brought home little Hazel, and the plan was to launch a puppy section on Paws For Reaction. Unfortunately Hazel's health has been complicated, and I didn't have your average puppy owner problems to write about. Instead, I wrote the series Dealing with a Doggy Disability which I'm really proud of. It was a difficult time, but I hope my experiences were able to help someone who may have been in a similar position.
I'm so excited to move forward with the evolution of Paws For Reaction! After the first five years I have to say I'm just as excited as the first day! Thank you for reading and engaging! Cheers to the next five years!
To celebrate 5 years Paws For Reaction launched a new logo design! |

March for Science in Ottawa on Earth Day 2017
I will be heading to Parliament Hill on April 22 to join in the March for Science for Earth Day, and I'm really excited to join such a large group of people. This walk is part of a "global celebration of passion for science." Science needs to be protected from funding cuts and political or corporate interference. I will be walking to raise awareness about pollution and climate change. Hope to see you there!

When we talk about man-made climate change, we also need to celebrate the solutions already in place all over the world. Canada has a long way to go when it comes to harnessing renewable energy for the gross population, but our history of using hydroelectricity is something to be proud of. CLICK HERE to learn more!

Protecting the Ottawa River watershed: First Nations history important for the future
of the environment
“Water is speaking: Are we listening?” That question was
posed by Saugeen First Nation Chief Randall Kahgee in the book Boiling Point by Maude Barlow. Water is life- the indigenous people have always known this to be
true. Water feeds our bodies, water is
our bodies. Water is prosperity; water is safety. Water should be clean.

Facing off with a climate change denier? There's an App for that!
How often have you had a conversation with a climate denier, and they spew out mouthfuls of 'alternative facts' that they claim debunks manmade climate change? You sat there knowing their claims were false and knowing that the science was against them. Didn't you wish you had access to quick facts to debunk all of their claims?

A new era
is upon us: Reduce carbon emissions and increase
biodiversity

When I was growing up we lived in a brand-new housing
development for a few years. Our family was one of the first to move to the
newly created community. I loved it there because we had a park and forest in
the back; and a stream that lead to the rushing river. It was my own, personal
ecosystem to explore, climb and collect ‘samples’ from. Most of all, it was my
place to get good and muddy!

Climate Facts: Sharing science and hope
I'm really inspired by Years of Living Dangerously and their hashtag #ClimateFacts to raise awareness about climate change. Years has challenged themselves to release one climate fact per day. I've decided to join in and create my very own Paws For Reaction #ClimateFacts to raise awareness about climate science, and also to share solutions and renewable achievements. Sharing solutions keeps me hopeful. While I wont be sharing one fact per day, I'm going to try my best to share one a week.
